What a day for election results in the UK

Well did we actually see a massive change in politics over the last 24hours in the UK or are we back to the same old way come Monday?
It looks like the AV vote will be lost by a big margin and this will end the debate for the next few years – or will it? Is this the start of a move toward a more PR based system in the future? Only time will tell.
In Scotland we are about to see a majority SNP administration being formed. I didn’t realise until today that the whole way that Devolution was set up north of the border by Labour was to prevent the SNP every gaining majority power – How strange!!
In Wales, Labour will have enough seats to form an administration and Plaid Cymru have lost their balance of power position.
In England there is very much a North/South divide and nothing has happened as people predicted. The Tories have done far better than everyone expected. Labour really don’t have anything to celebrate and the poor Lib Dems have taken what can only be said as a “kicking”.
This certainly looks like we are in for interesting times politically over the coming months and years. My own personally opinion is that whilst the Lib Dems have suffered at the moment in the longer term when things get better economically they will benefit greatly.
The results in England indicate that the electorate is more sophisticated than a lot of the politicians give them credit for and that the cuts have to be made. The coalition is implementing £16BN in cuts and Labour under Alistair Darling would have made £14BN so they are not that far apart.
One result I also want to mention is that of the Greens, they now are the majority on the council in Brighton. Its refreshing to see this kind of thing happen and only time will tell how this pans out.
One final point – the BNP has lost most of its seats in the local elections.
